Important steps to do before redirecting a podcast to RSS.com

Modified on Thu, 25 Jan at 2:55 PM

Before placing a redirect on your old podcast hosting provider, make sure you have done the following steps:

Backup your analytics data

Your podcast analytics will not transfer to RSS.com when you migrate your show, so make sure to get copies or screenshots of your download history from your previous hosting provider before placing a redirect. Because there isn't a universal standard compiling and measuring podcast analytics, we cannot include download metrics from a different hosting provider that may have been formulated by a different standard than our data.

Backup your episodes media files

It's always a good idea to back up your data before doing any updates or changes. It's standard practice for websites and software, and it should be standard practice for your podcast. You would be surprised how often podcasters need a copy of their old content, and it's always smart to have that copy saved offline.

Update any embedded web players on websites and blogs

Does your podcast website have any embedded web players for old episodes of your show? They may not work after the redirect is placed. If you have individual episode embedded players, you can swap them out for the RSS.com embedded episode players! If you are looking for a playlist player, you may want to look for a plug-in that will work with your website. Wordpress users can find 3rd party playlist players like "Podcast Player" that should work with any RSS feed.
