How to Exclude Ad Categories in PAID

Modified on Mon, 7 Jul at 8:08 AM

With the PAID feature on RSS.com, you can manage which types of ads are eligible to play in your podcast by excluding specific ad categories. This gives you control over the kinds of industries or topics you prefer not to include in your monetization.

While you can't choose the exact ads that get inserted, setting category exclusions allows you to steer ad selection in a direction that better suits your preferences.

How to Exclude Ad Categories: Step-by-Step Guide

You can easily exclude ad categories using a selector tool similar to the one you used to choose your podcast Categories. Follow these steps to customize your ad preferences:

  1. Within the PAID page, scroll down to "Ad Content Preferences"
  2. Search or Browse Categories.
  3. Select Parent Categories or Subcategories to exclude.

By default, we exclude 2 category groups and 3 categories, but you may choose to include them back:

  • Non-Standard Content (parent category or category group)
  • Illegal Content (parent category or category group)
  • Politics (category)
  • Pregnancy (category)
  • Sexuality (category)

Categories are displayed alphabetically by Parent Category (e.g., Arts & Entertainment).

Selecting a Parent Category will automatically include all its subcategories (e.g., Books & Literature, Celebrity Fan/Gossip, Fine Art, Humor). Once selected, the entire group of subcategories will appear as a single Parent Category chip in the input field.

When selecting a Parent Category, all its child categories are selected and placed in disabled mode, ensuring they cannot be manually removed individually.

Subcategories cannot be individually deselected if the Parent Category has been selected; they are automatically included when a Parent Category is selected. Then if a Parent Category is deselected, all of its subcategories will also be removed.

You can deselect categories anytime to allow ads from those groups again.

Excluding specific ad categories helps to maintain brand alignment and audience trust. It also ensures ads are relevant to your podcast’s niche by avoiding categories that do not align with your podcast’s values or themes.
