Programmatic Ad Insertion at RSS.com: What It Is and What It Isn’t

Programmatic Ads Inserted Dynamically (PAID) is RSS.com’s new way to help you easily monetize your podcast episodes, both new and old, with minimal effort.

When you activate PAID, ads are automatically inserted into your episodes without any manual editing. Ads are sourced programmatically from trusted ad exchanges, and they’re dynamically selected based on factors like:

  • Listener location
  • Device type
  • Language
  • Content category

This ensures that only relevant ads are placed into your podcast, helping you maximize your earnings while maintaining a good listener experience.

These ads can include professionally produced spots, like traditional radio-style ads, promoting products, services, or other podcasts. In general, if a brand or advertiser wants to reach podcast listeners based on specific attributes, their ad could be placed in your show.

Key Benefits of PAID at RSS.com:

  • Hands-off monetization: Just set it up once and start earning from your entire back catalog.
  • Tailored ad placements: Ads are dynamically matched to your audience to increase relevance and revenue.
  • Flexible placement: You can choose whether ads appear as pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll during your episodes.
  • Catalog-wide earnings: Ads will be inserted into both new and existing episodes, boosting your overall monetization potential.
  • Category control: You can exclude certain ad categories to better align with your show’s brand.

What PAID Is Not (At Launch)

At launch, PAID is fully programmatic. This means:

  • You cannot upload or insert your own host-read ads yet.
  • You cannot pick individual ads to approve or reject.
  • However, you can exclude certain ad categories (like Gambling, Politics, etc.) based on your preferences.

We are actively working on new features, including the ability for you to add your own host-read ads and have more editorial control. Host-read ad functionality is planned for a future update later this year.
