If you’ve submitted your podcast to Spotify manually and aren’t seeing your Spotify download analytics in the RSS.com dashboard, the issue could be related to the licensor you selected during submission. Here’s what you need to know to ensure your Spotify downloads are properly tracked.
What Happened?
When you manually submit a podcast to Spotify through Spotify for Creators (S4P), you are prompted to select a licensor during the process. If the licensor is incorrectly selected, it can prevent Spotify from enabling “passthrough,” which is necessary for RSS.com to track your download analytics.
In cases where you don’t choose the correct licensor, or if you select “I don’t know,” Spotify defaults to Spotify Direct Submission as the licensor, which disables passthrough and stops RSS.com from being able to gather download data from Spotify.
How to Fix It
To ensure your downloads are properly tracked, you need to select RSS America as the licensor when submitting your podcast to Spotify.
Here are the steps you should follow:
- Log in to Spotify for Creators (S4P) when submitting your podcast.
- When prompted to select a licensor, make sure to choose RSS America.
- Avoid selecting “I don’t know” or any other option.
Incorrect selection can result in the wrong licensor, causing issues with analytics passthrough.
What If I Selected the Wrong Licensor?
If you suspect you’ve selected the wrong licensor, don’t worry! You can contact Spotify or RSS.com Support, and we can help manually update your show to enable passthrough and fix your analytics.
Submitting via Ingestion API
Alternatively, when submitting your podcast automatically to Spotify using our Automatic Distribution, the correct licensor (RSS America) is automatically selected. This ensures that passthrough is enabled, and your Spotify download analytics will appear in your RSS.com dashboard without any issues.
