How video ads and revenue work

Modified on Mon, 3 Aug at 4:01 AM

Your video episodes carry ads from the first one you publish, and you keep 70% of that ad revenue. There is no follower count or watch-hour threshold to clear first.

What runs on a video episode

Every video episode carries one pre-roll, automatic mid-rolls and two post-rolls. That layout is set for you, which keeps the ad load predictable for your audience and for the advertisers buying it.

Getting your share

Two steps put the money in your hands.

  1. Activate PAID and accept the terms.
  2. Add a payout method.

Activate PAID and connect PayPal walks through both. Your 70% share starts from the moment your payout details are in place, and it is not applied to ads that ran before then, so it pays to set this up early.

Important: Ads run on your video whether or not your payout details are ready. Until they are, that revenue stays with RSS.com. Setting up payout is what turns it into your 70%.

Your audio ads stay under your control

Audio and video are handled separately. You choose where ads land in your audio episodes, and changing that has no effect on video. See pre-roll, mid-roll and post-roll for how audio placement works.

One setting covers both. Any ad category you exclude in PAID is blocked in your video as well as your audio, so your brand-safety choices carry across.

Video without ads

Ad revenue is what pays for video delivery, which is why ads come with it on Max. If you need video without ads, that runs through custom and enterprise plans. Click Talk to us and we will work out what fits.
