Upload a video file where you would normally upload audio. Video podcasting is part of the Max plan.
There is no video mode to switch on first. Your show becomes a video show as soon as it has one video episode, and audio and video episodes can sit side by side in the same show.
Adding a video episode
- Open your podcast and click New episode.
- Upload your video file instead of an audio file.
- Fill in the title, description and artwork as usual.
- Publish or schedule the episode.
Your audio feed keeps working the way it always has. Podcast apps that do not play video still receive the audio, so no part of your audience loses access. Where your video episodes play covers every destination.
Video file requirements
- MKV, MP4 or MOV
- Up to 5 GB per file
- Up to 2 hours long
- At least 1080p on the shorter side of the frame
A file outside these limits still uploads. We keep the audio and publish the episode as an audio episode, and the video is not included. Apple Video podcast requirements covers how to check a file before you upload it, and what to do if a file that meets every requirement still publishes as audio.
What happens to the ads
Video episodes carry ads, and you keep 70% of that ad revenue. How video ads and revenue work covers the detail, including what you need to set up to receive your share. You can also keep your audio episodes ad-free and let only the video earn.
Important: Apple reviews and approves shows for video separately. Being on Max lets you upload video, and Apple decides when your show is ready to carry it on Apple Podcasts. How to enable Apple Podcasts Video covers the request.
If you are not on Max
We keep the audio from your file and publish the episode as an audio episode. You will get an email explaining what Max adds, and nothing you uploaded is lost. See the plan comparison for what each plan includes.
