How to turn on voicemail and customize your invite

Modified on Mon, 7 Sep at 10:34 AM

Open your podcast, go to Settings and find the Voicemail section. If it is off, click Activate. That is the whole setup, and it works the same way on Free and on every paid plan.

Note: if you moved to the Free plan recently, voicemail is already on and your invite is already in your feed. There is nothing to activate. Go to Write your own invite below to change the text.

Your voicemail link

Click Manage voicemails and you will see your link at the top of the page, with a button to copy it. It looks like this:

https://rss.com/podcasts/your-show/voicemail/

Share it wherever your audience already is, a newsletter, a pinned post, the last line of an episode. You can also read it out on the show. See how to share your podcast or episode on social media.

Your invite goes into your feed on its own

Once voicemail is active we put your invite into every episode's notes. The invite text itself is the link, and you pick whether it goes at the top or the bottom. It goes at the top until you change it. Your feed is rebuilt straight away, and podcast apps pick the change up on their next refresh, so give them a few hours.

Write your own invite

  1. Go to Settings, then Voicemail, then Manage voicemails, and find Voicemail settings.
  2. Under Message, write your invite. You have 140 characters.
  3. Under Positioning, choose Top of the episode notes or Bottom of the episode notes. It is at the top until you change it.
  4. Check Preview. It shows the line the way your listeners will see it, in the position you picked.
  5. Click Save changes.

Leave the field empty and we use our own invite. Whatever the line says, it is the link, so you do not need to paste the URL in yourself.

Note: ask for something specific and you will get more messages. A question about the last episode works better than "send me a voicemail".

How to turn it off

Go to Settings, then Voicemail, then Manage voicemails, and click Disable voicemails. You stop receiving new messages, the link is taken out of the episodes you have already published, and it is not added to new ones.

The voicemails you already received are not deleted, but you cannot open them while voicemail is off. Turn it back on and they are there again.
