How to add a new chapter to an episode

Modified on Tue, 5 Aug at 11:11 PM

Chapters help you break your episode into segments that are easier for your audience to navigate, and more engaging to listen to. They’re part of the Podcasting 2.0 namespace, and RSS.com offers full support, including optional enhancements like artwork and clickable links.

What Are Chapters?

A chapter is a timed segment within your episode. You can use chapters to:

  • Add structure to your episodes (great for interviews, long-form shows, or tutorials)
  • Display chapter-specific images (great for visual storytelling)
  • Include links that listeners can interact with in supported apps (perfect for companion content, references, or sponsor promotions)

Not all podcast players support Podcasting 2.0 chapters yet, but many modern apps do, including Podverse, Fountain, and the RSS.com Web Player.

? Pro tip: If you turn your episode into a video using PodViz (audio to video), chapters and titles will be exported to YouTube.

How to Add Chapters to an Episode

1. Go to your episode list.

2. Find the episode you want to edit and click the “Chapters” icon.

3. You'll be prompted to create your chapters:

For each chapter, fill in the following details:

  • From: Start time of the chapter
  • To: End time of the chapter
  • Title: Chapter name (shown in supporting players)
  • Chapter Art (optional): Upload an image specific to this segment
  • Chapter Link (optional): Add a clickable URL. For example, link to an article, song, sponsor page, or video related to that chapter

4. Save your chapter and repeat the steps above to add more chapters, then click “Save”.

Creative Ways to Use Chapters

Chapter Art and Chapter Links are optional, but powerful. Links will open in a new tab or window (depending on the app), so your podcast keeps playing while the listener explores the linked content. Here are some examples:

  • Link to case studies, charts, or blog posts you reference during an episode
  • Share images of guests or events during storytelling segments
  • Drive traffic to your sponsor pages or affiliate products at the right moment
  • Include YouTube clips, tweet threads, or PDF guides relevant to the chapter topic

Compatibility Reminder

Podcasting 2.0 chapters are a forward-looking feature. Not every app supports them yet, but support is growing. Here’s how to make the most of them today.

Finally, share your episode using the RSS.com Web Player, which offers full-screen chapter navigation on desktop and use PodViz to turn chapter-enhanced episodes into beautiful, chapter-aware YouTube videos
